A Drop of Dye Into Water

Interview via dinner and then email, October 2014

What a dream it must be to travel through one of the most beautiful places you've ever been, to look out a window at one of the most surreal landscapes you have ever seen, and to be all alone among a never ending variety of microclimates.

Over the course of some weeks in September, Paul Hoi rented a 4x4 and braved "the legendary Ring Road in Iceland, which connects the entirety of the Nordic country."

He writes, in one of our many emails (and texts and conversations) discussing the work, "traveling on my own and driving late into the night, I often woke up in unrecognizable locations in the foggy, moss-covered countryside.  My sense of time and place quickly became stretched out and warped."
